Ice plants to be established in 2 islands with Indian assistance

Ministry of Fisheries, Marine Resources and Agriculture has signed an agreement to establish ice plants in two islands under the grant aid scheme from the Government of India.

The ministry has contracted the project to VAM & Company Private Limited to be completed within 5 months at a cost of USD 517,287.

A plant with the capacity to produce and store 25 metric tonnes of ice will be established Gaafaru, Kaafu Atoll and Maduvvari, Raa Atoll. The fisheries ministry noted the aim of establishing more ice plants at various locations in the country is to provide ice for fishing vessels to store fish during long sea journeys.
