Minister of Home Affairs Imran Abdulla has said the administration needs the support and cooperation of the public in fighting extremism and violence. Home Minister Imran made the statement while speaking at the official ceremony held to mark the Day Maldives Embraced Islam.
Speaking at the ceremony, the minister said the administration needs the support and cooperation of the public in order to eliminate violence and religious extremism from the country. He said it is important to remember the values Maldivians share as a country in order to maintain the peace, prosperity and unity of the nation.
The minister said Maldivians are peace-loving citizens that are united by religion and culture. He said the story of how Maldives embraced Islam is one that teaches many lessons, such as the importance of promoting thinking when spreading the message of Islam.
Home Minister Imran said the current generations must strive to keep Maldives as an Islamic country. He said it is the responsibility of the administration and religious scholars to identify the challenges faced in doing so and tackle these challenges.
