October inflation recorded at 0.28%

Statistics publicised by National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has revealed the inflation rate of Maldives increased to 0.28% in October, a 0.05% increase compared to September this year.

The inflation rate stayed at 0.43% for the first 10 months, which is a 0.075% increase as compared to the year 2018, according to Consumer Price Index (CPI) publicised by NBS. The changes of inflation were mainly attributed to changes of price in food, rental and communication services.

While vegetables inflated 8.27%, price of mobile phone calls increased by 2.95%. The statistics also showed increase of rent by 0.84%, furniture by 0.64%, communication services by 0.66% and drinking water by 0.64%. Meat and others inflated by 0.51% and 0.12% respectively.

While price of a variety of items increased, items of fish, fruit, and dairy products saw a decline in price in October.
