Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has revealed services of the new fuel firm developed in Velana International Airport will be commenced in 2021.
MACL is working towards completion of the fuel firm before the end of this year. The development of the new fuel farm, would triple the current capacity of fuel storage at VIA. As part of the project, 3 storage tanks will be established in the fuel farm. A further 2 fuel tanks can be established with regard to the fuel demand and storage limits. Once the tanks are established, MACL will begin to provide fuel by a hydrant pipeline which will ease the process of fuelling aircraft at VIA.
Speaking to media, Deputy Chief Officer, Corporate Affairs, Mohamed Niyaz said a firefighting platform is also being developed along with development of the fuel firm. The firefighting platform is constructed about 20 metres from the fuel firm, Niyaz added.
Furthermore, MACL is developing a shipping dock that can accommodate the largest vessels at VIA. MACL said once the dock is completed, fuel can be easily transported and stored at VIA, adding the cost will be reduced.
The development of the new fuel farm, which would triple the current capacity of fuel storage, was contracted to Beijing Urban Construction Group (BUCG).
