Ministry of National Planning and Infrastructure has revealed the works of the land use plan of 53 islands are pending as there is no detailed map of the islands.

Speaking regarding the land use plan of islands, planning ministry said the plan of 72 islands have been approved, zones of 19 islands have been allocated and plans of 44 islands are in the approval process. Although works are ongoing properly, works of the land use plan of 53 islands are disrupted due to the lack of a detailed map of the islands, noted the ministry.

Furthermore, the planning ministry expressed there are islands that do not have the technical capacity to prepare the detailed map. However, the ministry revealed efforts are underway to find a solution for the matter by working together with the island councils of respective islands.

The aim of the government is to develop every island with a proper plan. In efforts to achieve the goal, the planning ministry began preparing land use plan of islands with bare lands. The land use plan is prepared to allocate land in a way the waste is minimised and ensure the existing bare lands are sustainably used. In this regard, the land use plan is divided into 6 zones which include, plots for living, plots for institutional and social service, plots for sports, vacant plots, plots for business, plots for environment protection institutions and plots for state.

The ministry stated when allocating lands for certain activities, the needs and demands of the islands will be considered adding land use plan for each island will differ.
