Ministry of Islamic Affairs has initiated discussions with religious scholars to mediate a solution for the differences raised within religious scholars regarding extremist ideologies.
Speaking to PSM News, Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr. Ahmed Zahir Ali upheld majority of the religious scholars in Maldives are against extremist ideologies. The minister mentioned however doubts are raised among religious scholars because actions are being taken against individuals promoting extremism.
Furthermore, minister stated religious scholars directing messages at each other via social media platforms may result in worsening the situation urging to refrain from any such actions. The Islamic minister advised all religious scholars to work towards achieving the mutual goal of eliminating extremist ideologies promoted in the country.
Noting all scholars must work towards the peace and stability of the society, minister advised to maintain the Islamic principles without misleading the society.
