USD 518,135 disbursed to victims of September 20 tragic fire incident

National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has revealed USD 518,135 has been disbursed to the victims of the September 20 tragic fire incident.

In the latest report published regarding the fire incident, NDMA said 115 families living in 20 houses received relief payments. In addition, NDMA revealed 29 people from 7 families are still in temporary shelters. The 29 homeless people have been housed at Gaakoshi flats by the government.

NDMA also provided food allowance and finances until December 20 to pay maintenance fees and utilities bills for the families living in Gaakoshi. A total of 786 people were reportedly affected by the fire incident.

The fire that originated in a chemical storage facility in Male' City yielded losses amounting to 2.3 million US dollars, according to NDMA. The tragic fire destroyed 7 residential buildings and 4 storage facilities, killing a 46-year-old woman.
