Health Protection Agency (HPA) has revealed an individual is being tested after being suspected of contracting measles.
HPA said tests are being performed on the individual in order to confirm the presence of the measles virus. However, no further information has been revealed.
Measles is viral disease that is highly contagious. Symptoms of measles include severe fever, coughing, runny nose and sore, red eyes that may be sensitive to light.
Ministry of Health had previously conducted a country-wide public vaccination programme to eradicate measles from Maldives. In 2017, World Health Organisation (WHO) declared Maldives as measles-free.
However, there has recently been an increase in parents refusing to vaccinate children which has forced the administration to take up strict measures. HPA advised the public to complete the vaccination doses in order to stay safe from such diseases.
