Maldivian authorities have discussed actions to take regarding the spread of Novel Coronavirus, originally found in Wuhan, China.
The meeting led by Minister of Health Abdulla Ameen was also participated by officials from Ministry of Tourism, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation, Maldives Customs Service, Maldives Immigration, Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL), Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH), Hulhumale' Hospital and Health Protection Agency (HPA). The current situation of the novel coronavirus and how it can spread was discussed in the meeting.
As the disease is contagious, HPA has advised to take precautionary measures. Following reports, HPA has asked to seek immediate medical assistance if a person who travelled to China notices symptoms such as breathing difficulty, fever and coughing. HPA also urged cautious when travelling to China.
The new coronavirus, dubbed 2019-nCoV, causes a kind of pneumonia and has struck at hundreds of people in Asia after first being detected in Wuhan. The most common symptom is a high fever, but patients can also show other respiratory symptoms like coughing, a sore throat and breathlessness.
