Minister of Health Abdulla Ameen has assured Ungoofaaru Regional Hospital will be a remarkable facility in the region when it is upgraded to a tertiary-level hospital. The minister made the remarks at the ceremony held to inaugurate the private room ward established in Ungoofaaru Regional Hospital.
Speaking at the ceremony, Minister Ameen said the administration aims to minimise the travels made by citizens seeking minor health services, adding it is a policy of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih to provide services closer to the citizens.
Shedding light on the project of the administration to develop five tertiary-level hospitals in various parts of the country, the minister said Ungoofaaru is one main location of the project. He said efforts are ongoing to seek equipment and establish required services to upgrade the regional hospital to a tertiary-level hospital
During his visit to Ungoofaaru, the minister held discussions with relevant authorities regarding the project to transform Ungoofaaru Regional Hospital to a tertiary-level hospital. Separate meetings were held with Ungoofaaru Island Council and senior management of the hospital.
During the meeting, the Ungoofaaru council expressed concerns over the poor condition of the regional hospital and the difficulties in providing accommodation and other facilities for foreign doctors and nurses. The minister detailed the plan for the hospital in addition to disseminating information about the design of the hospital.
During the trip to Raa Atoll, the health minister met with representatives from health centres of all islands in the atoll. In addition, he also monitored the situation of the health facilities in the islands.
