Ministry of Health has revealed the possibility of a coronavirus outbreak in Maldives is high.

The health ministry said the risk assessment done following the coronavirus outbreak in various part of the world showed Maldives is at high risk.

The government has taken precautionary measures to prepare for a possible outbreak, including the establishment of an isolation facility with 12 beds in Hulhumale'. Furthermore, if any patient is found in a serious condition, they will be taken to an isolation facility established in Dharumavantha hospital.

Coronavirus cases in China now exceeds the 5,327 people who were infected in the country with the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) which killed about 800 people around the world between 2002 and 2003. China's National Health Commission (NHC) has reported a total of 5,974 confirmed cases of pneumonia caused by the novel coronavirus by the end of Tuesday.

The coronavirus has spread across the world with cases reported in Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, Australia, Cambodia, Canada, France, Germany, Japan, Malaysia, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Singapore, Thailand, South Korea, Vietnam and the US.
