Ministry of Education has contracted the construction of the new building of Dharumavantha School to SJ Construction Private Limited.
The agreement of the project was signed by Minister of Education Dr. Aishath Ali and Director of SJ Construction Shihad Ibrahim.
The new Dharumavantha School is developed as the first school under the concept of holistic education. The project conducted under the Public Sector Investment Programme (PSIP) for 2019, will cost over USD 4.8 million and is contracted to be completed within one year.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Education Minister Aishath Ali said the new building of Dharumavantha school will be very different from other schools. Highlighting the school will prioritise teaching talents and skills as much as theory, she stated the new concept will benefit the country.
The school will have 41 classrooms with a capacity of 25 students per classroom. The new building must be handed over to the government by April next year, while efforts are underway to launch the school for the academic new year of 2022.
Dharumavantha School was formed to solve the issues faced by Majeedhiyya School due to lack of space. Majeedhiya School was divided to form Dharumavantha School in 2002.
In 2016, a temporary building was constructed next to Velana Building to shift Dharumavantha School due to the poor condition of the school. However, no building was constructed to date for the school.
The new building of Dharumavantha School will be constructed in the vacant plot infront of Villa College.
