Minister of Tourism Ali Waheed has assured Maldives will overcome the challenges faced to the tourism sector due the global coronavirus (Covid-19) outbreak. The tourism minister made the remarks addressing the 30th Annual General Meeting of Maldives Association of Tourism Industry (MATI).
Tourism Minister Ali Waheed acknowledged the achievements of the sector would have been impossible if not for local investors, adding Maldives is promoted as a tourist destination due to the hard work of the investors. Noting several efforts are made to advance the Maldivian tourism industry to meet the developments of the global tourism, the minister acclaimed bringing in a record amount of tourists last year was a major milestone achievement. He said every negative impact on tourism will have negative impacts on the economy.
Moreover, the tourism minister stated the biggest challenge currently for the industry is the Covid-19 outbreak, revealing efforts are exerted to overcome the challenges and minimise the impact on the economy.
