National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has stated an investigation is underway on the reports that an individual tested positive for COVID-19 in Chile who had traveled to Maldives.
A tweet from NDMA stated the authority is collecting information on the case from the health authorities in Chile as well as the international travel agencies to trace the travel history of the individual.
Chile has confirmed its first-ever reported case of COVID-19. Chile additionally announced the individual who tested positive for COVID-19 is a 33-year-old male doctor who recently traveled in South Asia. Among the countries he visited are Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Maldives and Spain.
While it is the first-ever recorded case of COVID-19 in Chile a vast number of cases have been recorded across the world. The neighboring countries of Maldives such as India, Sri Lanka, Malaysia and Singapore have also reported cases of COVID-19 since its outbreak.
The local authorities confirmed there are no positive case of COVID-19 in Maldives thus far. The administration has been taking special safety precautions to prevent an outbreak of COVID-19 in Maldives.
