Male' City Council has decided to inspect construction sites, cafes and restaurants in the capital city to promote health, hygiene and safety.
Speaking at a press conference, Mayor of Male' City Sifa Mohamed said it is important to promote hygiene and health of individuals at a time a deadly virus is spreading globally. The mayor added the city council will work to provide necessary information regarding COVID-19 to the citizens. In this regard, Sifa revealed teams will inspect construction sites, cafes and restaurants in Male' to examine the cleanliness of the places and to promote placing hand sanitizers and such produces in establishments. She noted priority will be given to the task although lack of staff is an issue for the city council.
Furthermore, the mayor said while a vast majority of laborers are expatriates, Male’ City Council decided to conduct awareness programmes for the expatriates in efforts to ensure the cleanliness of the places they live. In addition, she said efforts will be exerted to ensure the cleanliness of mosques as many people gather to the mosques, highlighting monitoring methods will be strengthened across the city.
