Barriers hindering women's potential must be removed: President

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has stated efforts must be exerted to remove obstructions challenging women to work to their full potential.

Sending felicitations of the International Women's Day 2020, President Solih acknowledged the countless contributions made by women that have uplifted and enriched human life. In this regard, the president said the administration firmly believes that an equal world is an enabled world and recommit to removing barriers hindering women from their full potential.

The administration has exerted major efforts to empower women and enable equal opportunities for women. As such, the cabinet comprises of seven women and for the first time ever female judges were appointed to Supreme Court.

Every year March 8 is marked as the International Women's Day. The theme of International Women's Day 2020 is: I am Generation Equality: Realizing Women's Rights. The theme is aligned with United Nations (UN) Women's new multigenerational campaign, Generation Equality, which marks the 25th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, the most progressive roadmap for the empowerment of women and girls, everywhere.
