Action to be taken against media spreading false COVID-19 information

Maldives Media Council (MMC) has decided to take action against media outlets who spread false information regarding COVID-19. MMC made the decision at an emergency meeting.

According to MMC, meetings will be held with heads of media outlets to inform the guidelines on sharing information on COVID-19, while a committee will be formed to oversee the news related to COVID-19 and take action against unregistered media and discuss with relevant authorities of the state.

Moreover, MMC advised agencies to refrain from spreading false information regarding COVID-19 which may cause dismay and chaos in the society. MMC urged media outlets to ensure all facts are right before publishing news.
