Speaking at a press conference, the spokesperson of National Emergecy Operation Centre (NEOC), Under Secretary at President's Office Mohamed Mabrook Abdul Azeez said the elderly 70-year-old male infected with the virus had to be moved to the capital from isolation centre in Farukolhufushi as he needed to be kept under close supervision.
Speaking at the press conference, Dr. Muaz Moosa said no contact was made with a member of the public or hospital staff during the transfer. Dr. Muaz further said although both the patients are in good health and stable, the transfer had to be made given that the male is an elderly. Additionally, he explained the patient was deemed a high risk patient and his wife also transferred with him to Dharumavantha Hospital as she was also infected.
With additional two individuals tested positive for COVID-19 from Kuramathi Island Resort, the total count has now reached 8 in Maldives. All 8 individuals who were tested positive for COVID-19 are expatriates. HPA currently has three resorts in lockdown following cases suspected for COVID-19.
