Maldives Correctional Service (MCS) has established a special task force to strengthen safety measures in prisons.
MCS revealed the security and safety of the prisons have been enhanced following the countrywide yellow alert issued amid COVID-19 detection. According to MCS, the taskforce will provide information to inmates and provide protective items such as masks and sanitizers. The institution said safety measures are being taken as advised with the assistance of Health Protection Agency (HPA) and the taskforce.
In this regard, MCS revealed actions to be taken if an inmate showed symptoms of COVID-19. Noting temperatures of the prison officers will be checked before contacting with an inmate to avoid unfavourable situations, MCS said if an inmate is coughing or sneezing, court visits for the inmate will also be postponed.
