Maldives Customs Service has revealed the import-export revenue of Maldives increased by 19% in February 2020, compared to the same month last year.
Goods worth USD 245 million was imported into the country which is an 11% increase compared to the USD 219 million worth of goods imported in February 2019, according to the statistics published by Customs. Meanwhile, the value of exports stood at USD 25 million in February 2020 which is a decrease of 26% compared to USD 34 million in February 2019. The state generated USD 19 million as revenue through import-export duty last month, which is a 19% increase compared to USD 16 million generated in February 2019.
Most of the goods were imported from China which was worth USD 30 million, according to the statistics. Goods worth USD 28 million were imported from Oman, while goods worth USD 27 million were imported from India. Meanwhile, most of the goods were exported to Thailand, with USD 10 million worth of exports. This figure was worth 40% of all exports from Maldives last month.
Additionally, goods worth USD 2.8 million were exported to France, while goods worth USD 2.5 million were exported to Germany. Goods exported from Maldives consists of different types of fresh and frozen fish.
