Majority of Male' population will be provided with housing this term: Planning Minister

Minister of National Planning and Infrastructure Mohamed Aslam has said a large population from Male' City will be provided with housing before the end of this term.

Speaking at the ceremony to lay foundation stone to develop 1,700 housing units in Hulhumale', Planning Minister Aslam said the administration is conducting housing projects after appropriate need analysis assessments on income and living conditions. Minister Aslam guaranteed housing for all and said although the past projects have been delayed, the administration will deliver a solution and solve housing problems faced by the residents of Male' City. He further said 1,700 housing units will be spacious and very conducive for living.

At the ceremony, the foundation stone was laid by Minister Aslam, Minister of Housing and Urban Development Aminath Athifa and key figures of Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation in addition to the top management of Sinohydro Global, the contractor of the project.

The 1,700 housing units will be provided at an affordable price and will be developed in eleven 15 and 16-storey towers. The towers will include 1,020 three-room apartments and 680 two-room apartments. The administration expects to complete the project launched at a cost of USD 133 million within 2 years.

The special representative praised the strong political and social mobilization of the Maldives to protect child rights and reassured Minister Shahid of the support from the United Nations to build on the achievements and address capacity constraints.
