The government has closed off the use of public grounds and parks following the declaration of State of Public Health Emergency in Maldives.
In a statement, Director General of Public Health Maimoona Aboobakuru revealed the use of all public grounds and parks in the Greater Male' region has been banned until further notice. According to the statement, the preventive measure was imposed as a precaution to curb the spread of COVID- 19. Health Protection Agency (HPA) has urged to follow all measures to successfully curb the virus in Maldives.
On February 12, Maldives declared a public health emergency to boost efforts to curb the disease. Following the declaration, certain authorities are granted to the Director-General of Public Health to ensure the safety of citizens, which includes prohibiting gatherings and closing off places among others. In this regard, gathering in Republic Square, Sultan Park, Hulhumale' Central Park, and all other public parks and grounds is prohibited.
