Vice President urges public to follow advise of health authorities

Vice President Faisal Naseem has urged the public to follow the advice of health authorities in maintaining proper hygiene.

Tweeting about the situation of COVID-19 in Maldives, Vice President Naseem stated public cleanliness must be prioritised in order to stay safe from the virus. In this regard, the vice president called on the public to pay special attention to maintaining proper hand hygiene and to refrain from attending large gatherings. He also urged to follow the advice of health authorities and to act in accordance with the instructions given by health professionals.

While the spread of COVID-19 has been declared as a global pandemic by the World Health Organisation (WHO), Maldives has declared State of Public Health Emergency following the identification of positive cases in the country. The number of positive COVID-19 cases in Maldives has now risen to 10.

As part of the efforts of the administration against the disease, schools have been closed for an additional week following the mid-term holidays while the local council elections and women's development committee elections have also been postponed. Health professionals have advised the public to stay home if any COVID-19 symptoms are found and to maintain proper hygiene.
