Positive COVID-19 cases in Maldives rises to 10

A fifth individual from Kuredu Island Resort has tested positive for COVID-19, bringing the total of positive cases in Maldives to 10.

Health Protection Agency (HPA) stated samples were obtained from 10 new individuals in Kuredu for testing, of which nine tested negative while one came out positive. HPA said the individual has now been transferred to the isolation facility in Farukolhufushi.

While the total number of positive cases in Maldives has risen to 10, all individuals who were tested positive in Maldives are foreigners who are either tourists or employees of resorts. Five of the positive cases came from Kuredu, while two positive cases were from both Sandies Bathala Maldives and Kuramathi Island Resort Maldives. The other case was found from Anantara Dhigu Maldives Resort.

In addition, HPA has also obtained samples from five other resorts for testing, including Sheraton Maldives Full Moon Resort and Spa, Olhuveli Beach and Spa Maldives, Bandos Island Resort, Meeru Island Resort and Spa and Dream Maldives. HPA stated appropriate measures will be taken based on the changing situation of COVID-19 in Maldives.
