Maldives has placed a temporary ban on tourist arrivals from Spain as part of the efforts to contain the spread of COVID-19.
The decision to temporarily ban tourist arrivals from Spain was announced by Minister of Tourism Ali Waheed during the press conference held to disseminate the latest information regarding the situation of COVID-19 in Maldives. He stated tourist arrivals from Spain will be temporarily banned effective from tomorrow. He added a temporary ban has also been placed on tourist arrivals from certain regions of Germany and France.
During the press conference, the tourism minister also announced efforts are underway to establish a new quarantine facility in Velidhoo, Alifu Alifu Atoll. He stated the facility to be established in Velidhoo will be used as a quarantine facility for the next six months, adding positive and suspected cases will be transferred to the island once the quarantine facility in Vilivaru reaches full occupancy.
The tourism minister announced teams from Maldives Police Service and the tourism ministry are currently working on developing the quarantine facility.
