Director General of Public Health Maimoona Aboobakuru has assured actions required with the change in COVID-19 situation in Maldives will be imposed without any hesitation or delay.
Speaking in regards to the situation, the director general of public health said precautionary measures were taken beforehand to contain the situation and to minimise the risk on Maldives. She added every action taken by Maldives is within the guidelines and in line with the decisions of World Health Organisation (WHO), as COVID-19 is declared a global pandemic.
Moreover, the director general of public health said the highest priority will be given to imposing actions in a way that will minimise the spread of the virus during the State of Public Health Emergency. In this regard, Maimoona noted it has now been prohibited to travel from one island to the other unless necessary and instructed to avoid public gatherings.
Furthermore, the director general of public health said the most important step that can be imposed is exercising personal and social responsibility. Maimoona advised to be cautious about health precautions and to follow instructions of relevant authorities. She expressed gratitude for the cooperation extended by the public in following orders to relevant authorities, adding every action or decision is taken to ensure the safety and health of all citizens.
Following the declaration of State of Public Health Emergency, the Director General of Public Health is granted with several authorities to contain the situation.
