National Emergency Operation Centre (NEOC) has revealed 419 tourists have been sent back to their countries from three resorts which reported positive cases of COVID-19.
Speaking at a press conference, Spokesperson of NEOC, Under-Secretary at President's Office Mohamed Mabrouq Azeez said 126 tourists from Sandies Bathala Maldives, 73 tourists from Kuramathi Island Resort Maldives and 220 tourists from Kuredu Island Resort and Spa have been sent back to their countries. He added the tourists who were sent back had no contact with the individuals who had tested positive for the virus and showed no symptoms.
The spokesperson also shared details of the islands and resorts placed under monitoring after suspected cases of COVID-19 were found. In this regard, he noted a doctors’ team has been sent to Fehendhoo, Baa Atoll after an individual in the island presented COVID-19 like symptoms. The individual has been placed in an isolation facility.
As a precautionary measure samples are being taken from a foreign national in Reethi Beach Resort who developed COVID-19 like symptoms. The individual has been placed under self-isolation and the resort is currently under monitoring, according to HPA.
Meanwhile, four tourists from Six Senses Laamu Resort have been isolated after they were identified as contacts of an individual who was tested positive in their country. However, they have not shown any symptoms of the disease yet.
Furthermore, samples have been obtained from two individuals from Olhuveli Resort for testing on suspicion of contracting the virus. Meanwhile, two individuals tested in OBLU Sangeli Resort have tested negative for COVID-19.
Additionally, 12 individuals from Anantara Dhigu Maldives have been isolated after a positive case was identified from the resort. Intensive screening is also being conducted on tourists and staff of Kuredu Island Resort, which has so far presented five positive cases of COVID-19.
While 10 positive cases of COVID-19 have been found in Maldives, all cases involve tourists and employees of resorts.
