Action to be taken against those violating COVID-19 related orders

National Emergency Operation Centre (NEOC) has revealed action will be taken against individuals violating the orders and decisions of the government to contain the COVID-19 situation in Maldives.

Speaking at a press conference, Spokesperson of NEOC, Under Secretary at President's Office Mohamed Mabrouq Azeez said while the government is taking measures to ensure the safety of the public, it is important to follow the instructions. In this regard, he said the government has declared a State of Public Health to ease the impose of necessary actions swiftly since the situation and spread of COVID-19 have been declared a global pandemic by the World Health Organisation (WHO). He added actions will be taken against individuals violating the instructions under the authority legally granted to the Health Protection Agency (HPA).

The spokesperson reiterated the importance of cooperating with the authorities and to follow orders personally. He said WHO has advised strengthening precautionary measures to contain COVID-19. He noted the organization has also ensured collective efforts are required to contain the situation.
