Minister of Health Abdulla Ameen has met with the 14-member medical team sent from India to assist Maldives in taking safety preventions against COVID-19.
During the meeting with the members of the medical team, Health Minister Ameen provided the most recent information regarding the measures taken by the government of Maldives to contain the spread of the virus in the nation. Additionally, the members of the team also expressed their views on how Maldives can overcome the current situation and ways they could assist in achieving it.
The spokesperson of the National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC), Under-Secretary at the President's Office Mohamed Mabrouq Azeez stated the medical team would be working in the main hospital in Maldives, Indira Gandi Memorial Hospital (IGMH). The medical team from India includes 7 doctors, 2 nurses and 5 medical officials. High Commission of India in Maldives stated the medical team includes pulmonologists, anesthesiologists, physicians and laboratory technicians.
Additionally, Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated the government of India also decided to provide, as grant assistance, three months of essential medicine stocks to Maldives, following a request made by the government of Maldives to make a special exemption from the export restrictions placed on medicines by India due to COVID-19.
