Foreigners banned from checking in to guesthouses and hotels in Male' region

Health Protection Agency (HPA) has banned foreigners from checking into guest houses and hotels in the Male' region as part of the efforts to contain the spread of COVID-19 in Maldives.

Director General of Public Health Maimoona Aboobakur signed and publicised an announcement stating foreigners are banned from checking into guesthouses and city hotels in Male', Hulhumale and Villimale' for a period of 14 days starting from March 15. However, tourists currently staying in hotels or guesthouses are allowed to stay until the end of their booking period.

Furthermore, HPA has also imposed travel restrictions from resorts to inhabited islands. The announcement states travel restrictions from resorts are applied for a 14-day period, effective starting from 1800hrs today.

HPA stated the measures were taken under the powers vested in the Director General of Public Health by Section 33 of the 7/2012 Public Health Act, as a preventive measure against COVID-19 outbreak. HPA has appealed to all relevant authorities to enforce the orders issued by the agency to contain the spread of COVID-19 in Maldives.
