Health Protection Agency (HPA) has ordered the closure of all universities, colleges and training institutes across Maldives for a period of two weeks as part of the efforts to contain the spread of COVID-19.
Universities, colleges and training instituted were ordered to be closed under the discretionary powers vested in the Director General of Public Health under Section 34 of the 7/2012 Public Health Act, to contain the spread of COVID-19 in Maldives. HPA appealed to all universities, colleges and training institutes to close down for a period of two weeks starting from today.
Meanwhile, all schools have been closed for an additional week after the end of the first mid-term holidays. The government stated schools were closed for an additional week in order to observe the current situation of the COVID-19 outbreak in the country and would be opened once the situation is under control. The government stated lessons will be conducted online or through broadcast, in case school and other education facilities need to be closed for an extended period.
