3 foreigners test positive for COVID-19, total 13 cases in Maldives

National Emergency Operation Centre (NEOC) has revealed 3 more foreigners have tested positive for COVID-19 in Maldives. Two individuals from a safari have been found positive for COVID-19 in addition to a tourist from Anatara Dhigu Maldives Resort, spokesperson of NEOC Mabrouq Azeez said while speaking at a press conference.

Following the detection of the new 3 cases, the total number of positive cases for the virus in Maldives has risen to 13. All patients tested positive for the virus in Maldives are foreigners, including tourists and foreign nationals working in resorts. So far, 5 cases are recorded from Kuredu Island Resort and Spa, 2 cases from Sandies Bathala Maldives, 2 cases from Kuramathi Island Resort Maldives, 2 cases from Anatara Dhigu Maldives Resort and 2 cases from a safari.

Moreover, Health Protection Agency (HPA) revealed samples collected from Fehendhoo in Baa Atoll, OBLU SELECT at Sangeli Resort, Bandos Maldives, and Dreamland Maldives have all tested negative. HPA added temporary monitoring measures enacted in the islands have now been lifted.

In addition, HPA is currently testing samples of a foreign national in Vilamendhoo Island Resort who developed COVID-19 like symptoms. HPA said the individual and close contacts have been placed under self-isolation while monitoring mechanisms are in place on the island until further notice.

Meanwhile, HPA has assured all actions necessary will be taken without further delays. HPA has advised to exercise proper personal hygiene and to take precautionary measures.
