Sri Lanka halts on-arrival visa for Maldives

Sri Lanka has halted issuing on-arrival visa for Maldivians.

Despite announcing temporary on-arrival visa suspension for tourists, Sri Lanka was granting on-arrival visa for Maldives, Seychelles and Singapore under a visa waiver agreement. However, Sri Lankan authorities have now decided to suspend on-arrival visa for all countries until further notice, including Maldives, as part of the new COVID-19 control measures.

Sri Lankans are also being asked to avoid non-essential foreign travel. A vast number of Maldivians travel to Sri Lanka every day, while about a population of 15,000 Maldivians reside in the country.

Meanwhile, High Commissioner of Maldives to the UK and Non-resident Ambassador to France and Spain Farahanaz Faisal has asked to register the details of Maldivians in the UK, Spain and France to keep up to date on the situation, due to the ongoing pandemic of COVID-19.
