Minister of Health Abdulla Ameen has stated operations conducted as precautionary measures against COVID-19 in Maldives will be extended nationwide.
Health Minister Ameen stated operations conducted in the Greater Male' region as an effort to contain the spread of the virus will be extended and conducted separately in other atolls. In this regard, the minister stated efforts are currently underway on providing COVID-19 test kits to the atolls and full medical aid to the atolls. He further stated the guidelines issued as a preventive measure against COVID-19 will also be improved due to positive cases of the virus reported in Maldives.
Additionally, speaking about the over-population in the Greater Male', Health Minister Ameen stated a special prevention plan needs to be allocated for the region to contain the spread of the virus. The minister further stated the safety measures against COVID-19 allocated by the administration are being closely monitored. Moreover, he stated it would be a huge accomplishment if the spread of the virus could be contained and controlled in the country, adding the extension of operations will play a huge part in the efforts.
While the World Health Organisation (WHO) has decided to provide Maldives with financial support to fight against COVID-19, the country has also received medical assistance and support from other countries.
