USD 13 million allocated from contingency budget to finance COVID-19 measures

The government of Maldives has allocated USD 13.7 million from the contingency budget to finance the precautionary measures and expenses during the period of the State of Public Health declared in Maldives.

Speaking at a press conference, Spokesperson of National Emergency Operation Centre (NEOC) Mohamed Mabrooq Azeez said the amount allocated by the Minister of Finance Ibrahim Ameer does not include financial aid and donations.

The government has taken stringent measures to contain the spread of COVID-19 in Maldives. Several efforts are exerted by the NEOC tasked with overseeing the COVID-19 situation in Maldives.

Moreover, Minister of Tourism Ali Waheed revealed efforts are underway to bring health equipment and technical experts from three countries to Maldives from finances allocated from the Tourism Trust Fund.

So far, 13 foreigners have been tested positive for COVID-19 in Maldives.
