President decides the jurisdiction of administrative constituencies of all councils

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has decided the jurisdiction of constituencies, city councils, island councils and atoll councils.

The president made the declaration in a Presidential Decree in accordance with Article 230 (a) of the Constitution of the Maldives which stipulates the administrative divisions of the Maldives shall be administered decentrally. In addition, under the Act on Decentralisation of the Administrative Divisions of Maldives, the president has the power to declare the jurisdiction of city councils and island councils within the administrative divisions of Maldives.
