National Emergency Operation Centre (NEOC) has stated the government is working to increase the capacity of Intensive Care Units (ICUs) by to 200 beds amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
Speaking at a press conference, Spokesperson of NEOC Mohamed Mabrouq Azeez stated the administration takes daily measures to ensure safety precautions against COVID-19. He further stated in an effort to prepare for the worst case scenario the administration is establishing health facilities and quarantine facilities across the country.
The spokesperson stated the administration is working to increase the bed capacity of ICUs. The ICU will be designated with complete medical facilities to treat patients, added Mabrouq. He also stated strict measures are being taken to ensure public safety during the period.
In an effort to contain the spread of COVID-19 in Maldives, the administration is working to establish extra isolation facilities. In this regard, the administration has begun the development of the phase 2 isolation facility in Vilivaru. In addition to the isolation facility being set up in Vilivaru, an 80-room isolation facility in Velidhoo is now ready to be in use. Moreover, Hulhule Island Hotel (HIH) is currently being used as a tourist support centre.
