The US Embassy in Colombo has advised its citizens to be cautious when travelling to Maldives.
In a tweet, US Ambassador to Sri Lanka and to Maldives Alaina Teplitz detailed the actions imposed by Maldives as precautionary measures. Meanwhile, the US Department of State advised US citizens to reconsider travel abroad due to the global impact of COVID-19.
The US State Department said many areas throughout the world are now experiencing COVID-19 outbreaks and taking action that may limit traveler mobility, including quarantines and border restrictions. The State Department added countries, jurisdictions, or areas where cases have not been reported may restrict travel without notice.
Following the advisory, Ambassador Teplitz urged US citizens travelling to Maldives to seek the latest information regarding the COVID-19 situation in the country. The updates on the US Mission stated Maldives has confirmed 13 cases of COVID-19 within its borders, noting cases have been identified throughout the country.
