Maldives places temporary ban on tourist arrivals from Malaysia and UK

Maldives has placed a temporary ban on tourist arrivals from Malaysia and the UK as part of the effort to contain the spread of COVID-19 in the country.

Speaking at a press conference held to disseminate information on the situation of COVID-19 in Maldives, Spokesperson of National Emergency Operation Centre (NEOC), Under-Secretary at President's Office Mohamed Mabrouq Azeez announced tourist arrivals from Malaysia will be temporarily banned effective from 1800hrs today. He also stated tourist arrivals from the UK will be temporarily banned effective from March 19.

International and transit flights from the UK and Malaysia will not be permitted to enter Maldives under this travel ban allocated by the administration. However, Maldivian citizens will be permitted to enter the country and undergo isolation for a period of 14 days.

As part of the efforts to contain the spread of COVID-19 in Maldives, the administration has placed temporary bans on tourist arrivals from 9 countries.
