Ministry of Tourism has temporarily banned foreigners from checking into guest houses and city hotels nationwide.
Speaking at a press conference, Minister of Tourism Ali Waheed announced foreigners are temporarily banned from checking into guesthouses and city hotels nationwide for a 14 day period effective from 1800hrs March 17. However, the minister stated tourists currently staying in guesthouses and city hotels are allowed to stay until the end of their booking period. He added the main focus of the administration is to ensure the safety and well-being of the public rather than improving the current economic situation.
While foreigners have been banned from checking into guest houses and city hotels in all parts of Maldives, checking into guest houses and hotels in Greater Male' region have already been banned from March 15 to 24.
