Six males, seven females positive for COVID-19 in Maldives; all foreigners

National Emergency Operation Centre (NEOC) has revealed 6 of the individuals who tested positive for COVID-19 are males and 7 are females, adding all confirmed cases are foreigners from four resorts and a safari.

NEOC stated, 5 positive COVID-19 cases were recorded from Kuredu Island Resort and Spa, 2 from Sandies Bathala Maldives, 2 from Kuramathi Island Resort, 2 from Anantara Dhigu Maldives Resort and 2 from Island Safari. Nine of the individuals tested positive for COVID-19 were from Italy, 1 from Germany, 1 from the UK, 1 from Turkey and 1 from South Africa. The government of Maldives has been attending to all individuals who tested positive and monitoring them closely. All individuals are reported to be stable.

NEOC further announced Vilivaru Quarantine Facility has no individuals at the moment, while Farukolhu Isolation Facility now has a total of 23 individuals, including individuals who were tested positive and developed symptoms according to the statistics from the government. NEOC said individuals in Vilivaru have been transferred to Hulhule' Island Hotel (HIH).

Health Protection Agency (HPA) reports it has collected samples from 229 individuals of which 241 has tested negative and 45 test results are awaiting. Over 238,771 who entered Maldives since the outbreak have been screened using thermal cameras installed in airports and seaports. 57 people who were screened were banned from entering Maldives.

HPA has received a total of 7,299 phone calls to its COVID-19 reporting hotline 1676, including 684 calls over the past 24 hours. The agency stated a total of 714 individuals have consulted at the flu clinic set up in Senahiya while 192 have consulted at the travel clinic. A further 53 expatriates consulted doctors at the clinic in Hulhumale' specially set up for foreigners.
