Health Protection Agency (HPA) has decided to fine and publish the names of individuals who violate orders to stay quarantined or self-isolated.
HPA stated individuals violating orders to stay isolated or quarantined as a safety precaution against COVID-19 will be punished in accordance with the Public Health Act. In this regard, HPA stated individuals violating orders will be fined an amount no more than USD 325, adding the names of the individual will also be published. The agency stated the measures will be effective starting from today.
Moreover, the National Emergency Operation Centre (NEOC) stated Maldives Police Service (MPS) will also be taking action against those violating isolation and quarantine orders. In addition, authorities have requested the public to call the designated hotline 1676 to provide information on anyone violating the isolation and quarantine orders.
The administration stated any measures taken during the State of Public Health Emergency is taken in order to contain the spread of COVID-19 in Maldives.
