The government of Maldives has announced India has donated 5 tonnes of medicinal items.
During the daily press briefing, Spokesperson of National Emergency Operation Centre (NEOC) Mohamed Mabrouq Azeez detailed the foreign aid received by Maldives during the COVID-19 pandemic. In this regard, Mabrouq revealed Maldives received 53 types of medicinal items on March 14 from India in addition to a 14-member medical team arriving in Maldives on March 13. He also highlighted the assistance extended by India in bringing Maldivians back to the country following the lockdown in Wuhan City, China.
Furthermore, the spokesperson noted 9,000 surgical masks were donated by the government of Japan to help curb the spread of COVID-19. The donation was made by private Japanese company, Yamaki Co. Limited.
Moreover, Mabrouq said the US had donated equipment to assist in efforts to manage the current COVID-19 outbreak. In this regard, the US donated 470 boots, 485 coveralls and 400 gloves required for the frontline staff working in the fight against COVID-19.
Meanwhile, China's Beijing Urban Construction Group (BUCG) has donated 50 electronic masks to Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL).
Many countries are assisting Maldives to curb the spread of COVID-19.
