The government of Sri Lanka has decided to extend the visas of Maldivians who will be staying in the country between March 14 and April 12.
Sri Lanka has stopped issuing new visas amid the COVID-19 pandemic but has decided to extend visas of foreigners currently staying in the country. In this regard, visas of all categories will be extended by 30 days for all foreigners staying in Sri Lanka between March 14 and April 12.
Following the decision by the Sri Lankan government, all Maldivians who are currently in Sri Lanka on short-term or resident visas will receive a visa extension of 30 days. The decision resolves the difficulties faced by Maldivians who have been unable to return due to the suspension of international flights.
Additionally, Sri Lanka has also advised any individual who is currently in the country after travelling to Iran, South Korea or any European country to register at the nearest police station or to call the hotline 119 for registration.
