Health Protection Agency (HPA) has temporarily banned foreign yachts and safaris from entering Maldives, as a precautionary measure against COVID-19.
Safaris and foreign yachts can neither enter nor dock in any island of the country until further notice, according to the statement issued by HPA. The agency stated the order was deemed necessary to contain the spread of COVID-19 and to safeguard the public health of Maldives. Director-General of Public Health Maimoona Abubakuru has requested authorities to take legal action against those who violate the order.
Additional measures recently taken by HPA include a temporary suspension of movement between local islands and resorts. HPA has also ordered all spas operating in islands other than resorts to be closed.
