Travellers to Maldives to be quarantined, except for tourists

The government has decided to quarantine all passengers arriving in Maldives by air, except for tourists.

Health Protection Agency (HPA) revealed all passengers travelling to Maldives by air except for tourists checking-in to resorts will be quarantined for 14-days at a place designated by the government. The agency said all passengers entering the country in all types of visas will be quarantined as a precautionary measure against the COVID-19 pandemic. Noting the orders shall be given full effect by all authorities and persons concerned, HPA advised everyone to follow the instructions given by all relevant authorities.

Meanwhile, HPA has also temporarily banned foreign yachts and safaris from entering Maldives, as a precautionary measure against the COVID-19 pandemic. HPA stated safaris and foreign yachts can neither enter nor dock in any island of the country until further notice. The agency reiterated the order was deemed necessary to contain the spread of COVID-19 and to safeguard public health in Maldives.

Director-General of Public Health Maimoona Abubakuru has requested authorities to take legal action against those who violate orders from the authorities during the State of Public Health Emergency declared in Maldives for a period of 30-days.
