Minister of Health Abdulla Ameen has stated the country must still prepare for the worst-case scenario regarding the spread of COVID-19, although the situation is under control right now.
Speaking at the inauguration of the workshop held by Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) for critical care doctors working in Maldives, Minister Ameen stated this is not the time to celebrate and discontinue the measures taken against COVID-19 in Maldives, even though the number of positive cases has not increased in the last few days. Noting even the most developed countries in the world are facing major difficulties in overcoming the COVID-19 pandemic, the minister said Maldives is still in a high-risk situation as the virus is rapidly spreading across Asia. He added it is important that Maldives is prepared for the worst-case scenario regarding COVID-19.
Speaking at the function, Representative of World Health Organisation (WHO) to Maldives Dr. Arvind Mathur said the measures taken by Maldives to contain the spread of COVID-19 is exemplary to the world. He added Maldives has shown results can be achieved if all authorities and institutions work together in unison.
The workshop, which was held to provide information on treating critical COVID-19 patients, was attended by doctors from IGMH, ADK Hospital and Tree Top Hospital. During the workshop, information was given on using protective gear when attending to patients as well as the main areas of focus when treating critical patients.
