National Emergency Operation Centre (NEOC) revealed orders have been placed to bring the equipment needed for ICU facilities in Maldives.
Speaking at a press conference, Spokesperson Mohamed Mabrook Azeez stated the government is working to prepare for a worst-case scenario in regard to the COVID-19 pandemic. In this regard, Mabrook said efforts are underway to establish facilities required to treat patients who may be in critical condition. He added the aim to establish a 200-bed capacity at the ICU facilities, noting some of the equipment has arrived in Maldives.
Furthermore, the spokesperson noted efforts are also underway to bring in more doctors, nurses and healthcare service providers. In this regard, Mabrook said doctors and medical students can register to assist Maldives in efforts to contain the virus. He said 33 medical students studying in Nepal have been brought to Maldives, while 10 doctors arrived on their own.
Speaking at the press conference, Mabrook noted 393 people entered Maldives on Sunday, including 160 Maldivians, 204 tourists and 29 individuals with other visas.
