Two buildings placed under monitoring after identifying contacts with Fellaini

National Emergency Operation Centre (NEOC) has revealed two buildings in Male’ City have been placed under monitoring after identifying residents of the two buildings who were contacts of Belgian footballer Marouane Fellaini.

Fellaini, who plays for Shandong Luneng in the Chinese Super League, was tested positive for COVID-19 after returning to China following a vacation in Maldives.

Spokesperson of NEOC Mohamed Mabrook Azeez stated two buildings in Male’ City have been placed under monitoring after some of its residents were identified as direct contacts of Fellaini during his stay in Maldives. Mabrook said the buildings will be monitored until samples are taken from residents.

Fellaini arrived in Maldives on March 8 and stayed at One and Only Reethirah Resort before leaving on March 12. However, the resort has not yet been placed under monitoring. The spokesperson affirmed Fellaini did not arrive in Maldives from China, adding he was likely infected with the virus after he left Maldives.

Health Protection Agency (HPA) has requested any individual who came into contact with Fellaini to immediately contact the agency.
