World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) has appointed Maldivian Minister of Tourism Ali Waheed to the Global Tourism Crisis Committee convened by the United Nations body.
Ali Waheed, who is also the chair of the South Asian Regional Commission, was appointed to the Global Tourism Crisis Committee in the Global Tourism Coordination Virtual Meeting held by UNWTO on March 19. The Global Tourism Crisis Committee convened by UNWTO will evaluate the impact of COVID-19 on the world tourism industry and work to revive the sector.
The committee will hold its meetings virtually analysing and evaluating the work it can carry in partner organisations. It will also proceed with recommendations on combatting the negative effects of COVID-19 on tourism as the situation of the global pandemic changes.
Maldives has been playing an important role in the UNWTO as the chair of the South Asian Region for 2020 and 2021.
